Abstract:
The widening divergence between advertised peak performances and actual achieved application performances is of special concern to the HPC community.
The analysis of this performance disparity is often quite difficult due to the large variety of HPC architectures and the strongly varying performance requirements
of modern scientific algorithms. This tutorial addresses these issues by providing up to date introductions and overviews on the following topics:
- Performance measurement tools and methodologies
- New HPC benchmarking initiatives and methodologies
- Performance comparisons across architecturally dissimilar platforms
- Performance requirement of modern high-end scientific applications
- Performance characterization of scientific algorithms
- Performance modeling and prediction techniques for scientific HPC applications.
